Outside Community Development Projects

Supporting Councils, Housing Associations, Charties and the Community

What does Inside Outside do outside?

We are very experienced in delivering a variety of very successful horticultural programmes including:

  • After school gardening clubs
  • Community development projects for organisations
  • In Bloom groups
  • Community gardening sessions
  • Community Allotments projects

We can deliver any of the above either as a series of workshops, as a fixed term group or as an independently funded community group.

Each of the above have a slightly different focus but share the same ethos – bringing people together to learn and to improve their local environments, be this an allotment, school grounds, an area of the village/town or by learning how to grow flowers and or edibles.

Depending on your needs your criteria may include cleaning and greening your local area, you may wish to enter Northumbria in Bloom, you may wish to learn how to grow, harvest and prepare edibles, a cookery group may want to learn how to grow veg to cook.

You can buy our services in or we can help you source grant funding from a wide variety of sources. We work with landowners, local authority, host organisations and various partners to create vibrant, successful and resilient communities.

Horticultural Courses & practical workshops

Inside Outside can deliver seasonal, horticultural workshops that can be done inside or outside and are suitable for all abilities and ages.

Hanging baskets (or containers)
Summer, Winter, Edible, a Basket for bees. In this workshop you will learn how to plant up a ‘themed’ hanging basket using fabulous plants that even the worst gardener can look after.
Bulb planting in the community
In these outdoor sessions you will plant an identified are with bulbs for a seasonal display that fits in with the grounds keeping regime. You will learn how to:

  • Design a planting scheme
  • Plant a variety of bulbs appropriate to the project

Composting at home or on the allotment
In this short course you will learn what and when to compost to make amazing compost that you can then use. You will also learn the theory of how to change the pH of your compost as well as having a tour of the compost heap. The longer the course the more in depth we will go.

Course Costs

Costs for courses can be covered in a variety of ways:

  • An organisation or group may have funds to cover course costs so would buy Inside Outside in
  • Inside Outside can advertise a ‘course’ and people can pay to attend at point of booking
  • We can work with you to secure grant funding

Costs for outside horticultural groups and activities are likely to be grant funded and we can help raise these funds by getting your group grant ready and helping make grant applications.

Funding

You can buy our services in or we can help you source grant funding from a wide variety of sources. We will get you grant ready and work with you to source appropriate funding for your project. We have successfully secured Adult Learning grants, Lottery funding, AAP funding, Parish Council funding, People’s Health Trust funding, RHS funding, LEADER and many more.

We are more than happy to work in collaboration with partner agencies for larger grants, for example, we are working with the PCP at Aycliffe, Cornforth in Bloom and livin to secure grants more than £200,000 for a natural play area and outside horticultural training ground.

We would love to hear about your project and discuss how we might successfully progress your ideas.

Coming soon...Bee Keeping with Darlington Bee Keeping Association

We have recently secured grant funding from the County Durham Community Foundation to put 20 adults over the age of 50 through the basic beekeeping training in partnership with Darlington Beekeeping Association. This exciting project will also purchase 6 hives that the group will look after in their local community whilst carrying out a number of bee friendly horticultural projects that will enhance the local environment but will also bee beneficial to our bee colonies.

Coming soon...John Muir Awards

We are currently seeking funding to work with a family gardening project to deliver the John Muir Award with the group. The John Muir Award is nationally recognised in the 12 national parks in England and is a great addition to your CV. We can tailor the delivery to meet the needs and ages of your group – schools, families, youth groups, individuals and adults alike. The John Muir Award can create an amazing, semi-structured opportunity to explore your local environment.
